  1. What is Dual Speed Hub?

    • The D-Link dual-speed stackable Ethernet/Fast Ethernet hubs are designed to allow easy migration and integration between 10Mbps10Mbps Ethernet and 100Mbps100Mbps Fast Ethernet, while providing manageability and flexibility in cable connections.

  2. For a departmental application, what kind of redundancy can the D-Link DFE-2600 series provide?

    • The D-Link DFE-2600 Series dual speed hubs provide two kinds of redundancy: SNMP agent redundancy and 10/100 LAN switching module redundancy. For the power supply, D-Link DFE-2600 series also provides a swappable power supply and fan module which allows for easy replacement if the power supply or fan fails.

For 10/100 LAN switching module redundancy, the hub stack must have a master hub (e.g. a D-Link DFE-2624ix or D-Link DFE-2616ix).

  3. Will the D-Link DFE-2600 series dual-speed hubs support RMON?

    • Yes, the series will support RMON. RMON support is currently under development. When the development of the RMON code is complete, customer will be able to easily upgrade their hub firmware to support this feature.

  4. What other useful features does the D-Link DFE-2600 series dual-speed hub support?

    • Utilization LED "meter" on 10Mbps and 100Mbps segments. This allows user to more easily monitor network traffic or utilization on both segments.

    • Auto Hub-ID assignment. This feature makes hub installation become simply plug-and-play.

  5. Can the D-Link DFE-908 be upgraded to a D-Link DFE-908DX?

    • No. The 10/100 switching module is built into the D-Link DFE-908DX, it is not a modular design.

  6. Do the optional modules for the D-Link DFE-2600 series work in the D-Link DFE-916?

    • Yes, all optional modules (D-Link DFE-260S, D-Link DFE-260TX, and D-Link DFE-260FX) can be used in D-Link DFE-916 without any problem.

  7. Can use 10/100 Auto sense function in up-link port for Dual speed Hub?

    • Yes, the up-link port is same as 10/100 Auto sense port. But, we suggest to using Cat 5 UTP cable.

  8. Can D-Link DFE-2600 series and DE-1800 series use same power supply?

    • Yes, you can do it.

  9. Can the D-Link DFE-908x and D-Link DFE-916 stack together and share the switch's function?

    • Yes, you can stack D-Link DFE-908x with D-Link DFE-916 and also share the switch's function from D-Link DFE-908x.

  10. What is the default setting for D-Link DFE-260TX and D-Link DFE-260FX?

    • We set the default setting in Full Duplex.

  11. Why did the D-Link DFE-260TX have a collision LED?

    • Our D-Link DFE-260TX support FDX and HDX mode with changes the dip switch. May you select the HDX mode, the D-Link DFE-260TX will detect the collision packet from the PHY and we can see the collision LED flush.

  12. We stack 5 devices as D-Link DFE-916x * 1 and D-Link DFE-916 * 4 in our side. But we appeared all device’s ID show “0”. Is it correct or not?

    • Yes, It is correct. Because of D-Link DFE-916 series Dual Speed Hub only can stack and no have SNMP function. If you stack with D-Link DFE-2600 series Dual Speed Hub, you will see the difference ID for each Hub.

  13. Can the D-Link DFE-916 and D-Link DFE-908 series be stacked together?

    • Yes, you can stack D-Link DFE-908x/908 with D-Link DFE-916x/916.

  14. Can the D-Link DFE-916/916x stack with the D-Link DFE-2600 Series?

    • Yes, a D-Link DFE-2616i or D-Link DFE-2624i can manage the D-Link DFE-916 models in a single intelligent, SNMP-based hub stack. One stack can have a maximum of five hubs regardless of type.

  15. What advantages are they’re to using D-Link DFE-260TX (or D-Link DFE-260FX) in a D-Link DFE-2600 series dual-speed hub? If I want to use the D-Link DFE-260TX (internal 100Base-TX module) to link two dual-speed hub stacks, should I put a D-Link DFE-260TX in each D-Link DFE-2600 hub stack?

    • In a typical application for a Fast Ethernet class II repeater, the maximum distance between DTE-to-hub-to DTE is 205m. With a D-Link DFE-260TX module, you can extend the distance between two hub stacks and extend the DTE-to hub-to-DTE distance to 300m. If you use a D-Link DFE-260FX then you can extend the maximum distance to 2km.

    • You can do the installation with one D-Link DFE-260TX module in the back of one D-Link DFE-2600 hub and connect to another hub stack using a front panel TP port. Using this method you will extend the inter-stack distance to 100m.

  16. How do I use the Uplink port to do a horizontal cascade with another repeater or hub?

    • The design of D-Link repeaters makes it easy to use an uplink port for cascading with another repeater or hub, for example, the Uplink port is shared with port 1 in the D-Link DFE-908. This means that only the Uplink port or port 1 can be in use at one time.

    • Please note the symbol ‘1x’ or ‘2x’ on each port, which means that these ports are MDI-X ports. You can use a straight cable to connect these ports to a personal computer with a network interface card (NIC).

    • For the Uplink port, the symbol on the port is ||. This symbol means that the port is straight MDI. You can use a straight cable to connect the uplink port to another repeater or hub without difficulty.

  17. There are two optional module slots in D-Link DFE-2600 dual-speed hubs, can I put any combination of optional modules (D-Link DFE-260S, D-Link DFE-260TX and D-Link DFE-260FX) into these two slots? or are there limitations to how I can combine modules within a single unit?

    • Yes, there are some limitations on combinations of modules that can be installed in a single unit. For slot 1 , you can install D-Link DFE-260S, D-Link DFE-260TX and D-Link DFE-260FX. In slot2 however, you can only install either a D-Link DFE-260FX or a D-Link DFE-260TX module. You should refer to the User's Guide "Optional module Installation" for more information.

  18. I cannot manage D-Link DFE-2624i through the 10Mbps workstation, why? How can I solve this problem?

    • Basically, the management bus for D-Link DFE-2600 series is designed in 100Mbps segment(management function will occupy some bandwidth so it make sense that put it in 100Mbps segment). The reason why the station in 10Mbps segment cannot manage through SNMP is lack of 10/100 switching module be installed in this hub. All you have to do is inserting the 10/100 switching(D-Link DFE-260S) into the expansion slot1 of the D-Link DFE-2624i. Then the station in 10Mbps can manage the whole hub successfully.
