  3. How to configure DI-713P for Optus Cable?
  4. How to configure DI-713P for ADSL with PPPoE?
  5. How to setup printing via DI-713P in Windows XP?
  6. I can not send or receive e-mails but can browse the Internet.

1. What Internet providers does DI-713P support?(Back to top)

DI-713P can work with Ethernet, Cable and ADSL connections (Telstra, Optus, etc.).

2. How to configure DI-713P for Telstra Cable?(Back to top)

The DI-713P provides Web based configuration. You can configure your DI-713P through your Netscape Communicator or Internet Explorer browser in MS Windows, Macintosh or UNIX based platforms.

SETUP YOUR COMPUTER

First set your computer up to obtain IP address automatically:
You can do this under Control Panel > Network > TCP/IP (linked to your network card) > Properties. In Windows XP select Local Area Connection > Properties. Connect your computer to the DI-713P (using straight-through cable), make sure you are getting a link light on the router on the port you have the computer connected to.
Restart PC.
After rebooting check the IP address that you have got:

  • in Win95/98 - go to Start > Run > winipcfg > OK > select your adapter and look under IP Address.

  • in Win2000/XP go to Start > Run > cmd > OK > ipconfig /all > look for IP Address.

  • It should be something like 192.168.0.x

If it is not - do the following:
in Win95/98 - go to Start > Run > winipcfg > OK > select your adapter and press Release All and then Renew All.
in Win2000/XP go to Start > Run > cmd > OK > ipconfig /release (hit Enter) > ipconfig /renew (hit Enter)

Start your Internet browser (ensure that any proxy settings are disabled. In IE: under Tools > Internet Options > Connection > LAN Settings). Then, type the IP address of the DI-713P (the default IP address is 192.168.0.1) into the Location (for Netscape) or Address (for IE) field and press "Enter" For example: http://192.168.0.1. After the connection is established, you will see the web user interface. To log in, enter the system password (the factory setting is "admin") in the System Password field and click on the "Log in" button.

    DI-713P SETUP

Please configure the DI-713P as follows:

After login, click on "Setup" at the bottom of the page
Under WAN Type click on "Change..."
Select "Dynamic IP Address for Bigpond Cable" for Bigpond Cable connection.

Note: Bigpond Direct ADSL connection customers, please select "PPP over Ethernet".

Under "Account" enter your username. Under "Password" enter your password. Leave "Login Server" blank.
    Save and Reboot.
Go to "Tools" menu in DI-713P and click on "Clone MAC". Do this from the computer which the Telstra cable was directly connected to the last time. This will place the MAC address of your computer into the DI-713P.

Normally the Telstra's modem will remember and only authenticate with the MAC address it was working with last time (i.e the MAC address of your computer which the cable modem was last connected to), unless you reset the cable modem.

Thats usually all the setup this is required in DI-713P. You just need to set your computer to "obtain IP address automatically", restart , and you should be ready to go.

If the problem is still there, then please power off your cable modem (which is connected to DI-713P), wait for 30 secs then power it back on.

Once the DI-713P has sucessfully connected to cable network, you will see some IP address information (i.e IP address numbers etc) from the "Information" menu of DI-713P. When it is not connected, it will usually show 0.0.0.0 there. Click on "Renew".

    Note:
Ensure that the TCP/IP of your computers are properly configured in order to be able to setup the DI-713P.
If the IP address of the DI-713P is 192.168.0.1, the IP address of your computer must be 192.168.0.X (where "X" is a number between 2 and 254). Each computer on your network must have a different IP address within that range. The default gateway mustbe 192.168.0.1 - the IP of DI-713P.

The TCP/IP environment of your computer can be configured in two ways. You can either set up a fixed IP address or it can be set to obtain the IP address from the DHCP server in DI-713P ("Obtain IP Address Automatically" mode).

    For example,
    1. Configure IP as 192.168.0.3, subnet mask as 255.255.255.0 and gateway as 192.168.0.1. Also you need to enter the DNS IP address of your ISP or more conveniently,
    2. Configure your computers to load TCP/IP setting automatically, that is, via the DHCP server of the DI-713P.

Document with setup suggestions for Telstra Cable connection is available here: Bigpond_Cable_Setup.zip.

    3. How to configure DI-713P for Optus Cable?(Back to top)

The DI-713P provides Web based configuration. You can configure your DI-713P through your Netscape Communicator or Internet Explorer browser in MS Windows, Macintosh or UNIX based platforms.

Select "Dynamic IP address" and then save.

Note: ADSL connection customers, please select "PPP over Ethernet".

Then go to "Setup" menu and enter your computer name in the field "Host Name" (get this from the computer on your network which the Cable modem was connected to directly the last time).

    Save and Reboot.
Go to "Tools" menu in DI-713P and click on "Clone MAC". Do this from the computer which the Optus cable was directly connected to the last time. This will place the MAC address of your computer into the DI-713P.

Normally the Optus's modem will remember and only authenticate with the MAC address it was working with last time (i.e the MAC address of your computer which the cable modem was last connected to), unless you reset the cable modem.

    5. How to setup printing via DI-713P in Windows XP?(Back to top)

Windows XP (as well as Windows 2000 and NT) has built-in support for TCP/IP printing. To setup TCP/IP printing please follow the example described in this document.

    6. I can not send or receive e-mails but can browse the Internet.(Back to top)

Check the name of your mail server. If it is just "mail" or "mail-hub" - change it to "mail.nsw.optushome.com.au" or "mail-hub.nsw.bigpond.net.au" (depending on what Domain Suffix the ISP is using in your area).

In Outlook Express you can change the name of your mail server under Tools > Accounts > Mail > Properties > Servers.

Some e-mail applications require you to enter the Domain Suffix when you configure your network and TCP/IP settings. The Domain Suffix is the unique identifier for your email server. Some ISPs require you to configure TCP/IP and include the Domain Suffix in order for your email to work properly.

The Domain Suffix is the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) address of the email server you are using. Your cable modem or DSL provider usually lists it somewhere on your invoice. (Throughout this FAQ, D-Link and the other settings you see in the figures are only examples. Your information may be different.) The Domain Suffix address should appear similar to this: nsw.optushome.com.au or nsw.bigpond.net.au. Find the Domain Suffix on your invoice or call your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to obtain it.
